Flame tests take advantage of emission spectra as well. They use the characteristic colours from different metal spectra to identify compounds. You just put a salt into a reasonably hot flame and watch the pretty colours. The yellow flame on the end is sodium, which always gives a very intense yellow flame. Potassium generally gives a fainter lilac colour. Strontium, calcium and lithium all give reddish flames. Copper gives a blue or green flame. Magnesium gives a bright white flame. It’s pretty colours and science and fire!
